I wasn't dieting or exercising, it just happened. But that doesn't happen for everyone and that's okay. I'm sure Jessica Simpson is feeling a lot of pressure from the media and maybe her agents to lose the weight and get back to work. Is it wishful thinking that one day pop stars and actresses can be chubby and successful?Regan Baxterhttp://twitter.com/BaxterRegannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3536683374417960813.post-55565732728480440582012-07-17T09:43:26.042-04:002012-07-17T09:43:26.042-04:00I think that Jessica gained a lot more weight than...I think that Jessica gained a lot more weight than most celebrities let themselves gain. Let's be honest....70 pounds is a lot of weight. I agree that she shouldn't expect herself to lose 20-30 pounds in the first few months. Although I know some women who have done it, it's certainly not normal.
Breastfeeding can absolutely help...but it's just one factor. I really hate diets because they don't encourage moms to eat NUTRITIOUS foods. That is really the issue. Not how much you're eating, but what kind of foods? Also, if you want breastfeeding to help, you'd better do it for more than 3 months!! My best friend told me after I birthed my first that I'd weight less than I ever had after 1 year of breastfeeding, and she was right. But it really did take a while. I'm 4 months pp with my second and I still have 18 pounds of the 40 that I gained to lose. For the first 2 months I lost NOTHING. So my advice to Jessica is to eat good food and keep breastfeeding! She can afford he best food; I'd be stocking up on the caviar, grass-fed meat, and super yummy french food if I were her!songbird516noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3536683374417960813.post-85488932108441893122012-07-13T11:52:39.433-04:002012-07-13T11:52:39.433-04:00 I think that is not that hard losing weight after... I was so hungry that my appetite skyrocketed. I never saw my hips shrink while nursing or once my baby started walking, as so many people claimed were their experiences. I just recently arrived at my pre-pregnancy weight, and I struggle to stay at it. I am 2 years and 2 months postpartum.

I think that mothers, -to-be, new, and even seasoned, are receiving MIXED MESSAGES about mothering. It's detrimental to every aspect of our country--our societal health, our workforce, our collective mental and marital health, and on, and on, and on. Shit like this does nothing to help moms be good at mothering.

I am disgusted by the fact that someone (might not have been Jessica Simpson) put a calendar-driven end date to breastfeeding. Her baby has no clue what day, month, or year it is--she just wants her mama's milk. And to deny that baby the most PERFECT nutrition it will EVER RECEIVE IN ITS ENTIRE LIFE because Jessica needs to get on with work is PREPOSTEROUS.

Celebrities, it seems, like to use breastfeeding as an accessory, and I really think many non-celebrity moms do, too. It's chic to nurse a newborn baby...to have a cute nursing apron, to have to pump, etc. They don't even give themselves a chance to do it long enough to realize how freaking easy it becomes.

Things like this get me so fired up and at times like this I am so discouraged about breastfeeding in the United States. There was a time when all anyone expected women to do was just mother their kids. Maybe a little of that sentiment wouldn't be such a bad thing in today's world. Wouldn't that be a worthy cause in and of itself--mothering for mothering's sake?Maggie Mitchellnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3536683374417960813.post-15242965820213924312012-07-09T14:17:06.880-04:002012-07-09T14:17:06.880-04:00Yes, what is this nonsense? I am in the middle - bf my firstborn till 12m and am still bf my twins at 13+. I am a huge advocate and have had amazing support since y daughters were born at 34 weeks and staye in NICU for 16 days. Got to resource with 5 Lactation specialist and learned gobs! Anyway, I weigh 130 normally. Weighed 134 two weeks after having my girls...gained 15 pounds throughout the following months because I was nursing...I don't love it, but it was the same with my son. I eat lots when I nurse and still feel like my body is for my babies. Now that they're a year I'm back at my normal weight, because I stopped eating SO much and started running, I'm totally borig you all here, all to say, it's over, it was a short year where I feel like i put my children above my vanity and personal needs. And frankly, nursing makes SUCH happy babies...now I'm rabbit trailing. So sad for JS. This baby will be a big girl before she knows it. Of course to people who don't bf, thisbisnonly my opinion and what works for my family - husband supports it emphatically... Although Vermont is very breastfeeding friendly, it is NOT the cultural norm here, especially until age 3! For crying out loud I have already heard from DOCTORS when was I going to stop breastfeeding, and my baby is SIX MONTHS OLD! I have also heard nasty comments and received many dirty looks when nursing in public and I use a cover! Yes, there are certain areas where BF is more acceptable than others, but in Burlington, Vermont's largest city, we have a long way to go to make it the "cultural norm" the precious poster mentioned! Don't get angry over them. I pitty them actually for being so self absorbed and not being able to give themselves fully and completely to another.

I think celebrities breastfeed for such short periods, if at all, because for so long they have been so focused on themselves that its hard to make that big jump into being so attached to a baby all the time. Breastfeeding is tough, and some babies are at it many times an hour! Never mind the sleep issues. On top of which celebrities can afford to pay someone else to do the dirty business and look after their baby. The hospital was great and kept checking with me how things were going and if i needed to see the LC again and never once mentioned formula or gave me any formula samples or coupons "just in case'.
