Keep up the great job!The Riley Chronicleshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03071328891666702779noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3536683374417960813.post-23157940230065279612008-06-10T11:07:00.000-04:002008-06-10T11:07:00.000-04:00Yes, cleaning the parts in between pumping is a hu...Yes, cleaning the parts in between pumping is a huge pain, but did you know Medela makes steam bags? You put the parts in, 2 oz of water and microwave for 2 minutes and everything is sterilized. Each bag can be used 20 times, so it's a real convenience. If you'll have access to a microwave, it's worth it to invest in some.
When I am with the baby, I only nurse, never pump. I don't want to have to worry about my supply and after using the pump, the feeling of the baby suckling is just so much more enjoyable! I love to be able to stroke his face and snuggle up to him while he nurses.Elitahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01294923997458681675noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3536683374417960813.post-58074682296736616902008-06-10T10:56:00.000-04:002008-06-10T10:56:00.000-04:00Oh, and for me, the worst part of pumping is havin...Oh, and for me, the worst part of pumping is having to clean the parts. I hate it! I actually bought a second set of shield/valves. I have to pump all this week to get a supply because I'm in a wedding on Saturday and with my bridesmaid dress and all, it will just be easier for Brent to care for Asher and I will pump before and after the ceremony. But this means I have to clean those damn parts all the time!Nichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11492629435007810776noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3536683374417960813.post-78390251989820026612008-06-10T09:56:00.000-04:002008-06-10T09:56:00.000-04:00OK, I kind of have a lot to say :) I started pumpi...OK, I kind of have a lot to say :) I started pumping when Asher was about 1 month so Brent could give him night feedings since I was so sleep deprived. My right breast would yield like 5 or more oz alone while my left would give me 2 or 3!! I don't pump much at all any more because I just do the night feedings now (brent doesn't really wake up when Asher cries, so what's the point of making him get up if I'm already awake). I got sick a couple of months ago and my milk supply suffered (it also coincided with my first period since having the baby). Plus I was stressed about the milk supply, which probably didn't help matters! Anyway, my supply is fine now, but I don't seem to get the same yield from either breast compared to what I used to.
I've pumped while out a few times. I had an all day workshop for school in Jan, luckily it was before the clinic was in session so I got to use a clinic room. I'm not sure what I will do in the Fall. I may have to use the bathroom stall.
Oh, and here's a crazy pumping story: I had retained product and needed a D&C when Asher was 7 weeks old. After the procedure, we were stuck in traffic in the snow for about 6 HOURS!! Asher was amazing and slept a good amount of time. We had pumped milk with us because I was supposed to pump and dump from the meds, so I gave him a bottle while he was in the car seat. My pump batteries were too cold to work!!! I had to use the manual attachment (THANK GOD I had that) in the car in traffic!
I am also very nervous about the prospect of daycare for Asher in the Fall. We are considering an in-home nanny, but not sure we can afford it. Still have to check out the local boys & girls club and family daycares. At least it will only be part-time, not full-time. Anyway, I've probably written more that you have for this post!Nichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11492629435007810776noreply@blogger.com
