Last time I slowly lost weight over the first year, while exercising, eating pretty well, and breastfeeding exclusively. When my son was 11 months old, he dropped his last overnight feeding and my cycles returned. I think my body was holding on to the extra weight to support breastfeeding, and the shift in my hormones (due to that long daily stretch with no nursing) signaled my body "let go." After that I began losing weight much more rapidly. I was also eating healthier at that time, as my husband was working to lose excess weight and we were eating less carbs, more veggies, and smaller portions. But I believe the hormone shift is what allowed me to lose the last 10 lbs of my pregnancy weight AND another 10 lbs to get to my goal weight (healthy BMI and fitting into my "skinny' clothes). Still, without breastfeeding, I would have had to make much more drastic changes in my diet and exercise habits to lose the pregnancy weight.Rebecca Millshttp://twitter.com/ramills08noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3536683374417960813.post-61219653054329234302011-03-29T12:19:30.395-04:002011-03-29T12:19:30.395-04:00http://www.breastmilkcounts.com/good-for-moms.html...http://www.breastmilkcounts.com/good-for-moms.html says we burn 600 calories/ day I do believe I got the 900 calories from the 2010 lalecheleague conference i went to talking about tandem nursing mothers and mothers who feed and pump to store and those feeding twins these numbers only apply to the time you only breastfeed so if that is 6 mos to 12 mos. but as soon as you start to feed baby food and cereal or ABM then these numbers do not applyGiselle Mugabonoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3536683374417960813.post-12708405133000835742011-03-29T11:38:48.596-04:002011-03-29T11:38:48.596-04:00The highest number I've ever seen is 500. If you only exercise and breastfeed, the weight comes off slowly. But breastfeeding or what I call B.S. breastfeeding or starving your self will not help you. You must eat and drink water.... (Not too much juice or milk) you have to be aware or how many calories you need each day just to breathe and live which is different for everyone. If you do not consume enough then you will be hungrier and your body will store too much fat since it knows you will starve it the next day, which makes you gain weight. This is my second baby that i have breastfed 100% for 10 months and each time I can 80 or more pounds and lost it....working out and breastfeeding does help a lot.Giselle Mugabonoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3536683374417960813.post-15650011644463914932011-03-29T10:55:49.882-04:002011-03-29T10:55:49.882-04:00Actually the research says 200 to 300 calories a d...Actually the research says 200 to 300 calories a day, which is not much at all. The research also says many women do not lose weight from breastfeeding alone, regardless of whether or not they are eating well. I know plenty of women who ate nothing but junk and lost the weight, and quite a few who ate sensibly and never lost a pound.<br /><br />Sent from my HTC on the Now Network from Sprint!<br /><br />----- Reply message -----Elita @ Blacktatinghttp://www.blacktating.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3536683374417960813.post-11246941596557127042011-03-29T10:24:41.880-04:002011-03-29T10:24:41.880-04:00I have went from 240 to 178 in one year but i do n...I have went from 240 to 178 in one year but i do not diet and i am on a hormonal birth control IUD. I just started going to the gym and I gave not lost much weight in a year but I have lost inches due to breastfeeding. I think we have to watch what we eat if we want to loose weight research says if you are only breastfeeding no ABM one burns 600-900 calories a day....if you are eating junk food everyday the weight will not come off...sorry!Giselle Mugabonoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3536683374417960813.post-84070521707306486832010-07-14T06:56:59.529-04:002010-07-14T06:56:59.529-04:00Ive actually gained weight!!! My "thing" was that I keep losing-- at 19 months I am under my pre-pregnancy weight by over 10 pounds. I didn't shed it immediately, but rather did it slowly. I still attribute that to breastfeeding!Mariahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13783085707283000645noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3536683374417960813.post-26937462073402730652008-07-10T00:57:00.000-04:002008-07-10T00:57:00.000-04:00All my weight come off due to breastfeeding.
